
Chawnta’ Marie is a proud alumna of Long Island University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Dance. Her passion for movement has taken her across the globe, training extensively in diverse dance styles and refining her craft to meet the highest professional standards.
As a principal dancer in Broadway productions such as Showboat and The First Noel, Chawnta’ brought her dynamic presence and technical excellence to the stage, drawing on her experience with acclaimed companies like Earl Mosley’s Diversity of Dance and Deeply Rooted Dance Theater. Her performance résumé also includes collaborations with the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and production work with the legendary Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Currently, Chawnta’ tours internationally as a dancer for Grammy-winning artist Lizzo. Her choreography is featured in the Emmy Award–winning Amazon Prime series Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, and she has graced some of the world’s most prominent stages, performing at the BET Awards, MTV VMAs, GRAMMY Awards, BRIT Awards, and Saturday Night Live. She also appeared in the NAACP Image Award–winning film The Color Purple, portraying Sofia’s sister and performing as a featured dancer.
Beyond the stage and screen, Chawnta’ is a devoted mentor, dedicated to empowering the next generation of dancers, not only through technical instruction, but by sharing the insight and resilience it takes to thrive in the industry.
Her accolades include a GRAMMY Award for her supporting vocals on Lizzo’s No. 1 Billboard hit It’s About Damn Time, as well as an Emmy Award for her work on Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.
